It is hard to hold a camera in Southern Arizona without capturing images of birds. When I started this website in 2015, my intent was to focus on Mt. Lemmon and the environs with landscape images. Over time, my wife's interest in birds was contagious, and well, if you follow my blog, you will realize that the blog has gone to a large part, to the birds! (groan . . . .).
As the number of blog posts (Journal) has increased, I have come to realize that my "bird total" is increasing, and I need an additional way to display the birds of our region. I have taken inspiration from Tom Grey's website http://tgreybirds.com/ and decided to create a listing in alphabetic order. I want to create a quick "go-live" date, but with enough content to make the site interesting from the beginning. My plan is to take the 40 bird species that Richard Cachor Taylor lists as "Common Local Birds" in his field guide Birds of Southeastern Arizona and use it as the backbone for development. Those 40 birds are listed below in Bold Type. As I complete pages for the birds, the bird name below will become a link to the relevant page. If you see it highlighted, it is a link, and you will find content. If not highlighted, stay tuned, more to come soon. Of course, I have images of birds that are not on Richard Taylor's top-40 list, and those will be added as I develop the pages. Remember, if it is in Bold Type it is one of the "Top 40 of SE Arizona." |
