Black and White Warbler
Black and White Warblers are medium sized warblers with a slightly down curved bill. They are boldly striped in black and white, and forage for insects on trees more like nuthatches than warblers. Like nuthatches, they move very fast and will forage upside down. All images here captured on November 29. 2017 at Sweetwater Wetlands in Tucson, Arizona.
Black and White Warblers summer for breeding in the east and northeast U.S. all the way up into eastern Canada, and winter in Florida, Mexico, Central America and south to South America. Their migration territory includes the central U. S. and northern Mexico, which just barely includes SE Arizona north of the border with Mexico. They are one of our favorite winter visitors.
