​A one week visit to the Southwestern Research Station, in two parts.  In Part I see the elusive Elegant Trogan in Cave Creek Canyon (image to the right), as well as the Hepatic Tanager, Dusky-capped Flycatcher, Northern Cardinal, Pyrrhuloxia, Whiskered Screech Owl, Black-throated Sparrow, Greater Roadrunner,  and Cassin's Kingbird,

​Visits to Bob Rodrigues' and Dave Jasper's feeders to spot the Yellow-breasted Chat, Cassin's Finch,  Lawrence's Goldfinch (seen in flight to the right),  3 Orioles (Scott's,  Bullock's,  and Hooded),  and Lazuli Bunting.

​This post includes a visit to the Sunny Flat Campground, with landscape photos and a topographic map of the area.  In April this campground is popular among birders, with many campers putting out hummingbird feeders.  Includes images of: Blue-throated Mountain-gem,  Black-chinned Hummingbird,  Broad-billed Hummingbird (image to the right),  Rivoli's Hummingbird,  a Cooper's Hawk looking for lunch,  and a Wilson's Warbler.

​On the way back to Tucson from Portal, we stopped at the post office and spotted:  Inca Dove,  Western Tanager,  and a Summer Tanager.  We drove uphill westward to Paradise and visited the historic George Walker House with feeders at the owners adjacent home.   Images of: Bridled Titmouse,  Juniper Titmouse, and over the parking lot, a soaring Zone-tailed Hawk pretending to be a Turkey Vulture (image to the right).
