Sulfur-bellied Flycatcher
The Sulfur-bellied Flycatcher winters in South America and breeds from Costa Rica to Northeast Mexico as far north as the canyons of SE Arizona. They nest in and around Sycamore groves in natural cavities or flicker holes. These images were captured in Madera Canyon on May 31, 2017. The bird above has a twig in his mouth and is likely building a nest. As hole nesters, they have been know to compete with Elegant Trogons for nesting accommodations (Reference: Richard Taylor, Birds of SE Arizona, p. 231.)
